It’s been raining for days here in Florida – April showers are here! When seasons change, so does fashion, and yet…. a transition wardrobe is needed before a new fashion season gets fully underway. I love classic pieces that transition well and can be thrown in a weekend bag at a moment’s notice, and with smart combinations cover most events over a spontaneous weekend. But exactly HOW to pull it all together and still look stylish?
For a successful weekend wardrobe I start with a core color scheme or a particular theme – for this edit I selected black/white/tan, and once I have my color theme, I throw in a pop of color, a floral or neutral prints, such as the stripe-on-stripes and a single floral element thrown in for added variety. The idea is to have as few pieces as possible that create the widest variety of looks for any event.
After the theme is established, I select basic pieces in the neutral colors, for this weekend: a pair of blue jeans for everyday and a pair of khaki ankle pants with a bit of stretch to cover both day/night. Adding in tops, I increase my versatility with a basic striped button-up blouse, a striped tank, and a floral print sleeveless camisole. Now for outerwear and footwear, one jean jacket, a pair of each white sneakers and black flip-flops. I love mixing up patterns, and doing opposing stripes really turned out well.
Voila! I can pair these simple pieces with one bucket handbag and jewelry, and go to: movies, dining in or out, a picnic, a barbecue, a flea market, lunch, everything and anywhere, except for maybe a black-tie event.
