I first learned about a daily spiritual practice while talking to a friend undergoing a personal crisis. She explained she kept herself calm and centered each day by meditating and journaling, as part of her ‘spiritual practices’. She encouraged me to find my own daily practice to be centered and at peace, no matter what life’s circumstances were, not to wait for a crisis, and suggested reading something meditative each morning. That conversation was several years ago and now my daily reading is my go-to start for the day.
My fave spiritual authors are Mark Nepo, Martha Beck, Esteemology (online), and anything by Melanie Beattie. They all do a daily reading either delivered to you via email, or in book form, and it’s so centering and enlightening too. It’s weird but not weird that each reading ends up relating to my actual day in ways I cannot even guess would relate.
Another way I incorporate a daily spiritual practice is to wear something meaningful that reminds me to breathe, stay centered, and think big picture, rather than get caught up in the drama of the moment. I love wearing my Lokai bracelet as it is a physical reminder to stay centered. The black bead on each bracelet style holds mud from the Dead Sea, to represent the lowest point, and the white bead holds water from Mount Everest to represent the highest point. Strung together on the Lokai bracelet it represents finding my own personal balance between the two points, my highest, and my lowest. What are your daily practices? I would love to know what inspires you. xoxo, Robin
